The Real Greek opens first restaurant in Scotland

It will be the Greek casual dining chain’s fifth launch of 2022 following new sites in Manchester, Newcastle, Solihull, and Gloucester. 

The Edinburgh launch takes the Fulham Shore-operated group up to 26 sites. 

The Real Greek says it will continue to expand its portfolio of restaurants around the country, with future openings in Scotland ‘already in the pipeline’. 

“2022 has been a landmark year for The Real Greek, with a particular focus on openings in the North of England. Not only have we opened our first Northern England property this year, but now we are expanding into Scotland, with ambitious growth plans to roll out more restaurants in this fantastic country,” says managing director Nabil Mankarious. 

The 140-cover site is located in the east end of Edinburgh’s close to The Alchemist, Everyman Cinema and Lane7. 

The Real Greek Edinburgh general manager Christiana Berg, added: “St James Quarter, since its inception in 2021, has been such a firm favourite with shoppers, tourists and locals alike. Bringing something new and different to the area, and a cuisine that is so well loved and caters for everyone is very exciting.”

The Real Greek was founded in 1999 by chef Theodore Kyriakou in Hoxton. It was sold to Clapham House in 2004 which expanded it to a total of six sites. 

In 2010, Clapham House was acquired by then Nando's owner Capricorn Ventures. 

In 2011, former Clapham House chairman David Page and business partner Nabil Mankarious acquired the Real Greek from Capricorn Ventures.
