Fast-growing bar and restaurant brand Coyote Ugly will launch a site in London’s Piccadilly Circus this spring having secured a former souvenir shop on Shaftesbury Avenue.

Under the Zedwell Hotel, the 6,200 sq ft will be the second Coyote Ugly in the capital joining a site in Camden which launched last year.

The deal to open the new bar has been headed by Steve Lewis, chairman of the Breaking Brands group, which owns the UK franchise rights to the brand.

His fellow directors are Nick Taplin - of Black & White restaurants - and Caroline Wilce.

The ground floor venue will hold a 3am licence, the first granted in the West End for over 25 years, Lewis says, and will have room for 350 people.

The opening will bring Coyote Ugly up to around 20 sites internationally and will join further UK sites in Liverpool, Birmingham, Cardiff and Swansea.

Founded in New York City in 1993, Coyote Ugly rose to fame in 2000 following the release of the multimillion-dollar eponymous film, which was inspired by bartenders’ experiences at the original site.
