Pub and pizzeria business Chickpea Group is taking on a new venue this spring to add to its collection of Wilthsire-based venues.

Located in the village of Broad Chalken the heart of the Chalke Valley in Wiltshire, The Queen’s Head dates back to the 19th century. It will reopen in March following a two-phase refurbishment that will involve opening up the bar and restaurant to create a new space.

Work will also be carried out on the kitchen, communal areas and outside space while the existing four bedrooms, which are housed in an annexe building to the rear of the pub, will be refurbished and restyled to be more in keeping with the group’s style.

The pub has a sheltered terrace area to the rear, with space for 80 guests and a beer garden in a wild meadow over the road.

As with the groups’ existing sites, The Queen’s Head will serve a mix of pub classics, including a double cheeseburger; and Asphill farm beef and stout pie with mash, mushy peas and gravy alongside more refined dishes such as Cornish ray wing with monk’s beard; and Herdwick lamb shoulder with borlotti beans and salsa verde. It will also serve a range of bar snacks such as Welsh rarebit; wood fired chalk stream trout rillettes; and sweetbread skewers.

Plans are also in place to develop an extra five letting rooms above the pub, with work set to start in the summer.

Chickpea Group operates a handful of pubs with rooms and pizza shops in the southwest of England. It is owned and run by brother and sister Ethan and Jordan Davids, along with their friend Tommy Tullis.
