Pie maker Great North Pie Co will open kitchen and bar in Manchester city centre later this month.

Launching at Kampus on 27 February, the restaurant will have 20-covers inside and an outdoor area overlooking the Kampus garden and canal that will seat an additional 30.

It will serve the company’s range of classic pies, such as its 14-hour braised beef and ale; roast chicken and mushroom; and Lancashire cheese and onion. A wide range of sides that includes mash, chips, cauliflower cheese, pickled red cabbage, mushy garden peas, and chip shop mushy peas will also be available, all served with roast onion and brown sauce gravy or house curry sauce.

The menu will also feature specials such as lamb and pea steamed suet pudding; corned beef hash; Lancashire hot pot; and keema and chips as well as a selection of school dinner-style desserts, including chocolate sponge and custard; and sticky toffee pudding.

Breakfast sandwiches will be served daily between 10:30am and 2.30pm.

“Since we started making pies it’s always been an ambition to have a base in the city centre. We’d been looking for a while and as soon as we saw Kampus, Little David Street and the gardens, we knew it was the right place for us,” says Neil Broomfield, co-founder of Great North Pie Co.

“While it’s our first city centre venue, we don’t have plans to roll out any more, as we place our focus on keeping the quality and consistency we aim for. We just want to concentrate on doing one thing and doing it well. The mix of traders coming into Kampus is amazing and we’re so proud to be part of it.”

Great North Pie Co started selling at farmers markets before it opened its first venue - a pie and mash hatch - in Altrincham’s Market House in 2014. In 2017 it followed this up, turning a small cafe in Ambleside into a pie shop, kitchen and bottle bar.

The company also supplies pubs, restaurants, retail and other venues nationwide, including Booths, Robinsons’s brewery, Dukeshill Hams, Manchester City Football Club, and Stockport County FC.
