Sussex vineyard Tinwood Estate will open an onsite restaurant in the spring.

Serving lunch every day and dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings, the 50-cover restaurant will be situated in the existing tasting room at the Chichester-based vineyard, with a large south-facing terrace overlooking the vines. It will also supply picnic baskets for al fresco dining among the vines.

The new Tinwood restaurant will serve modern British tapas, using local seasonal produce including fish, meat and vegetables with guests advised to choose three or four small plates that can be matched with wines from the estate.

The menu will change regularly according to what’s in season, what’s available and what’s tasting best, says the estate.

65-acre Tinwood Estate is located in Halnaker, just outside the West Sussex town of Chichester, at the foot of the South Downs National Park. It was created by Art Tukker who inherited the land when it was an iceberg lettuce farm and turned it into a vineyard in partnership with Ridgeview Wine Estate in 2006. The first vines were planted in 2007 and the first grapes were harvested in 2009.

It is an hour and a half from London and close to the Goodwood Estate.
