With increased emotional and financial pressures being placed on those who work in the drinks industry, The Licensed Trade Charity has launched a brand-new campaign called Because Everyone Needs A Little TLC to encourage more industry professionals to access support when in need.

It is estimated that around 250,000 people working in the licensed trade are in need of support at any one time. Although awareness of the Licensed Trade Charity (LTC) has increased in recent years, research has found that the majority of people working in the drinks industry are still unaware of the support they can access from the charity.

Because Everyone Needs A Little TLC has been launched to impactfully communicate how the LTC can help, who can access LTC services and to encourage those working in the manufacture, distribution or sale of drinks to seek support earlier to prevent an issue turning into a crisis.

Help is on hand

Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, LTC has supported over 150,000 people facing a crisis with practical, emotional and financial support, but there are plenty of people still struggling. Therefore, the charity’s ambition in 2023 is to spread the word even further about the grants and services it can provide so that it can help even more people in need across the drinks trade.

First port of call

Central to the LTC’s service is its invaluable 24-hour free helpline that is there day and night to give people the support they need, whenever they need it. Many reach out to the LTC helpline for support with their mental wellbeing, with the charity providing practical guidance and emotional support. However, the helpline and website are vital first steps, allowing the LTC to assess the care needed for its users.

Many of its beneficiaries come first through the helpline and then speak to specialists trained to Citizens Advice level or trained counsellors for support in all areas of social, mental wellbeing and financial aid who will provide help on a confidential basis.

Back on track

Whether you’re a server or sous chef, bartender or brewer, the LTC is always here when you need a little TLC, be it emotional support, specialist guidance or financial grants. With over 200 years’ experience serving drinks people, LTC can help you get back to your best, whatever you’re going through.

The spectrum of support drinks people can receive from the LTC is vast, it really is a one stop shop, covering everything from employment advice to one off grants up to £5,000 that might go towards helping with rent arrears, having a new washing machine fitted or providing new school uniform for children.

Of course, the level of support industry professionals can receive is dependent upon length of service and grants are means tested but all resources are completely free. The charity even runs three fully-funded independent schools, providing education to many children from the sector. Through its bank of specialists and dedicated staff, the Licensed Trade Charity is perfectly positioned to stop an issue turning into a crisis.
