'UK's first drive-thru Chinese takeaway' launches
Wiyo - which stands for ‘What Is Your Order’ - is five years in the making and is the creation of owners Leon Freeman, Sally Gallagher and Dominic Freeman. The trio are aiming for it to become “the McDonald’s of Asian cuisine” with plans to open further outlets across the country.
Menu items include shredded chilli beef; salt and pepper chicken; and ‘house special chicken’ served with a choice if either rice or fries. Other menu items include a salt and pepper sub made with chicken, lettuce, onions and Wiyo’s house special soy mayonnaise; battered spring rolls; and chicken nuggets,
Located off Bridge Foot in Warrington it is open every evening between 5pm and 9pm.
The trio initially came up with the idea for the restaurant in 2018 but have spent the intervening years looking for the ideal site for their drive-thru.
“The aim was to make Chinese takeaway food quicker and more convenient for the masses. Considering how popular Chinese food is in England, we were confused why no one had developed the concept before now,” Leon told Manchester Evening News.
“The goal is to make Wiyo the McDonald’s of the Chinese fast food industry. We’re already looking at franchises in Manchester, Liverpool, Essex and hope to make this national.”
The opening comes on the heels of the launch of what was billed as the first Indian drive-thru restaurant earlier this year. Chaiiwala opened on Manchester Road in Bolton in January serving dishes that include a chicken tikka pasty as well as a range of Indian bun, rolls, and wraps.
