'Ever-evolving' tasting menu restaurant brand Six by Nico will open its first Welsh location next month in Cardiff.

Taking over the former Zizzi’s site on Cardiff High Street, the new opening is described as ‘a huge milestone’ by group founder Nico Simeone.

“We are really excited to bring our ever-evolving experience to the community of Cardiff and Wales,” he says.

“It’s a special moment for me and the team who have been here since the beginning, we can’t wait to show off the Six by Nico experience.”

Six by Nico's concept revolves around a six-course tasting menu that changes every six weeks and is themed around different places, memories and ideas.

Simone has established himself as a prolific restaurateur, with his restaurant group Sixco currently operating 11 Six by Nico restaurants in locations including Glasgow, Edinburgh, London, Liverpool, Dublin and, most recently, Aberdeen.

It also operates a number of singular restaurants in Simone’s hometown of Glasgow including steak brand Chateau-X; charitable restaurant Beat 6; patisserie and café concept Valaria; and ‘eclectic’ tasting menu place 111 by Modou.

Earlier this year, Sixco announced major plans for further expansion across the UK and internationally following 'robust' financial results in the year since Covid restrictions were lifted.

Sixco Limited recorded turnover of £30.8m for the year to June 2022, versus £18.1m for the prior 15-month period to June 2021.

Operating profits from continuing operations jumped to £4.4m to June 2022, against a loss of £600,000 in the pandemic-hit 15 months to June 2021.

Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) from continuing operations was £5m, compared to a loss of £0.1m in the 15 months ended June 2021.

Six by Nico says the new Cardiff restaurant will create 40-50 new jobs for the city, including front of house, back or house and managerial roles.
