High-profile chocolatier Paul A Young will close his original Islington chocolate shop next week (31 July) after 17 years with his online business also set to cease trading.

Originally from Barnsley, A Young is among the industry’s most respected chocolatiers and pastry chefs with a CV that includes a long stint with Marco Pierre White as well as product development roles at major retailers.

His eponymous Camden Passage shop opened in 2006 with further locations following in The City and Soho.

The multi-award-winning chef is known for his work with less obvious flavours but is most famous for his sea-salted caramels.

While the shop will close next week, a selection of his products will remain on sale online until they run out.

Writing on Instagram, A Young said he was closing his business “after 17 wonderful years”.

“We have had the most exciting and fascinating time creating our chocolates on site by hand using artisan methods. We chose to work by hand and used natural ingredients to celebrate the wonderful cocoa bean and the chocolate created by our fantastic producers.”

"We have to thank every one of our customers, clients and suppliers as vour support and love of our products kept us innovating, creating and excited about making the very best chocolates we possibly could.”
