Group behind Barshu and BaoziInn to launch Eight Hundred Flavours later this month

The group behind Barshu and BaoziInn will launch a restaurant that focuses on the cuisine of China’s coastal Qingdao region in London’s Chinatown later this month.

On the 8 Little Newport Street site that is currently home to the group’s Dot Line Noodles concept (and before that Baiwei), Eight Hundred Flavours is billed as a collaboration between the group’s owner Shao Wei (pictured above) and chef restaurateur Chef Ming. 

With three decades of experience cooking Chinese food both in China and the UK, Chef Ming currently oversees a small group of restaurants in and around Birmingham that includes his Rocking Horse flagship. 

Eight Hundred Flavour’s launch menu will take inspiration from the hearty food he ate growing up on his family’s farm in the Qingdao region.  

Dishes will include steamed fish dumplings; guo tie (pan fried dumplings); house special fish fillets with noodles; and a selection of barbecue dishes. 

There will also be a selection of skewers and dumplings to take away.

Wei is among the capital’s best-known Chinese restaurateurs​ having established the highly-rated Barshu just outside Chinatown in 2006. 

Alongside his Frith Street flagship,​he operates the more casual BaoziInn chain which has sites in Soho and Borough Market alongside a number of concessions in food halls.
