The London-based chef known as Whyte Rushen has created a crowdfund to support the opening of his first permanent restaurant, which is set to launch next month in Hackney.

The elusive chef, who first came to prominence posting recipe videos on Instagram and has become a big player on the capital’s pop up restaurant scene, is understood to have taken over the former Nest site on Morning Lane, and has launched a GoFundMe to raise £20,000 to help get the doors open.

A statement on crowdfund page reads: “It's with a mix of every emotion humanly available, excitement, pride, anxiety, fear, joy and all the rest, that I can finally announce, we've found a site, a restaurant, a hub, a home...

“At the moment it exists as a shell, a blank canvas, a clean slate, a box of potential... Four walls ready to be adorned with hopes and new memories, and most importantly, filled with you lot.

“To create the space we’ve always dreamed of is obviously gonna cost a few quid, so this is not only an announcement, it’s a call to arms...

“I ask you with the most thanks imaginable in advance, to, if you can, if you can spare it, however little, donate to help make this a reality for us all, at this point every penny counts.”

The chef, whose CV includes stints at Brat, Scully St James, and Kerridge’s Bar & Grill, is yet to give any details on what will feature on the menu at his new restaurant.

Popular dishes at his pop ups have included oysters topped with pickled onion Monster Munch; wagyu meatballs with brioche, burger sauce, gherkin ketchup and a side of duck fat fries; and flambé Basque cheesecake with crème fraiche, poached fruit and crunchies.
