Manchester’s Cottonopolis closes to make way for new concept

Owners Nick and Hayley Muir say they shuttered the Northern Quarter venue late last year after a busy festive period. 

The pair are now preparing to launch a new brand in the Grade-II listed building with a ‘fresh fit-out’ and an ‘entirely new food and drink offering’. 

Cottonopolis launched in 2015 serving Japanese food and with a cocktail-focused drinks offering. 

“Cottonopolis has become known as a staple part of the Northern Quarter bar and restaurant scene. We believe we’ve reached the end of our journey in its current guise,” Nick says.

“We’ve already been hard at work with our team behind the scenes to develop our next adventure, which will bring a new quality place to eat and drink to the Northern Quarter.” 

Further details will be revealed later this month, with plans to reopen to the public early this year. 

The husband and wife duo are also behind Ancoats gastropub the Edinburgh Castle, which has placed on the Estrella Damn Top 50 Gastropubs list 2024.​​
