Applications are open for contestants for the next series of the BBC’s cooking competition MasterChef: The Professionals.

Shine TV says it’s looking for chefs from all kitchens and backgrounds who are ‘interested in boosting their career, challenging themselves and showcasing their passion in one of the UK’s most recognisable cookery competitions’.

The seventeenth series of the long-running cooking programme is due to air towards the end of the year.

Chefs must be at least 25 years old, have a legal right to work in the UK, a minimum of two years professional kitchen experience and must be free to film for up to 25 days between April and July 2024.

MasterChef: The Professionals has acted as a springboard for a number of chefs, including Dan Lee, Louisa Ellis, Gary Maclean, Santosh Shah, William Chilila, Adam Handling, Elly Wentworth, Stuart Deeley, Steven Edwards and Marianne Lumb.

Last year the competition was won by Tom Hamblet, who is currently running a series of residencies with his employer Exclusive Collection.

Chefs will compete in a series of heats judged by Monica Galetti, Marcus Wareing and Greg Wallace and will also have their cooking appraised by a number of the UK’s leading restaurant critics, who have in the past included Jay Rayner, Jimi Famurewa, Tracey MacLeod, William Sitwell, Grace Dent, and Tom Parker Bowles.

Applications close 18 March 2024. More details can be found here.
