The Fat Duck launches more affordable tasting menu
Billed as a ‘taster of the tasting menu’, the Sensorium Select menu is priced from £225 per person, a figure that is at least £70 lower than its The Full Sensorium menu, which ranges from £295 to £395 per person, and is available throughout February.
According to the three Michelin-starred Bray restaurant's website the more affordable menu gives guests the opportunity to experience a ‘specially curated series of dishes that capture the creative core of the Sensorium menu’ offering a ‘simple, intense way of exploring exactly what The Fat Duck is all about’.
The menu is made up of around eight courses including Beef Royale with smoked anchovies, mushroom ketchup and sweetbreads; Black Forest gateaux; and The Fat Duck’s famous Sound Of The Sea dish.
According to the restaurant’s booking system, The Sensorium Select menu appears to have comparable availability to the The Full Sensorium menu and no time restrictions.
The Fat Duck uses a ticketing system to fill its tables and has in recent years adopted an ‘airline-style’ pricing model, with tickets for less popular times priced lower than those for peak times.
Launched by Heston Blumenthal in 1995, The Fat Duck is one of the world’s most influential places to eat having pioneered cooking techniques that are now commonplace in professional kitchens.
The restaurant achieved its third Michelin star in 2004 and was named the best in the world by The World’s 50 Best Restaurants in 2005.
The Fat Duck is by no means the only ambitious restaurant to reduce its prices in the leaner months with a number of restaurants across the UK reducing their prices for January and beyond.
