Karen's Diner in Brighton to close after traces of drugs found
Karen’s Diner in Brighton Marina, East Sussex, will close this month following the discovery of traces of drugs throughout the restaurant, according to a report in The Argus.
The Karen’s Diner group has said it is terminating the franchise, with police prepared to ask councillors to revoke the premises licence, according to the paper.
The restaurant is due to close on 4 March.
During the licensing check on 2 February police officers found traces of cocaine, heroin, MDMA and ketamine in the toilets, kitchen, reception and on a customer table. Police also found that the restaurant had broken various licensing and safety rules.
A spokesperson at Karen’s Diner told the paper: “Our restaurants are intended to offer outrageously funny experiences and never to cause offence.
“Clearly the restaurant has operated outside of our guidelines and this is unacceptable.
“We take this opportunity of thanking the thousands of people who have been brave enough to visit and we share their disappointment as we announce this closure.”
Karen’s Diner opened in Brighton in August last year. The chain, which is owned by Australian parent company Viral Ventures Global, is known for its deliberately rude staff.
