Gordon Ramsay 'serves papers' to squatters at York & Albany
Squatters who took over Gordon Ramsay's York & Albany restaurant and hotel say they have been served papers, halting plans to run it as a community café.
The Camden Art Cafe took over Ramsay’s £13m venue in Camden earlier this week saying that they intended to run it as a neighbourhood hub for locals.
However, taking to social media it says that the chef has now served legal papers, forcing them to cancel their plans.
"Apologies to everyone who was going to come along today. Papers served, cafe cancelled," it posted in a statement on its Instagram stories.
The group had previously said that it expected its stay at the venue to be short lived, describing ‘the potentially short but hopefully long stay we squatters have here’, in a previous post on Instagram.
It had planned to open up the venue ‘to anyone and everyone’, particularly the people of Camden who, it claims have been victims of gentrification and ‘parasitic project’s like HS2.
“We provide free food, drinks, and a space to display their art without the ridiculous red-tape that galleries require people to jump over. We believe all of us and our art deserve dignity,” it said.
The building in which York & Albany stands opened in the 1820s.
