Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen is to open new cocktail bar RUBI in Surbiton with his brother Bryan Pietersen in early July.

Bryan Pietersen already owns another cocktail bar in London, PURL in Marylebone which opened in May 2010 as part of the Fluid Movement group before it disbanded.

The new RUBI bar will be located on Surbiton's Maple Road and opens on 8 July. The bar ranges over two floors and also has a garden.

RUBI will offer a speakeasy PURL lounge in its basement which serves molecular cocktails, a speciality of Bryan Pietersen's other bar which aims to give drinkers a 'multi-sensory' experience. It will have an upmarket coffee and cakes offering on during the day time in the ground floor area, before the venue becomes a cocktail bar in the evenings.

Lucy Hall of Christie + Co, which negotiated the sale of the bar's leasehold to the brothers, said: “With his infectious, if somewhat notorious personality, and working with his experienced operator brother, we look forward to Kevin Pietersen making the cocktails at RUBI as colourful as both his career and some of the hairstyles of his younger days.”
