Mattia Gerundio has been promoted to the role of head chef at Yuma Hashemi’s Clerkenwell restaurant The Drunken Butler.

Gerundio has been at the fine dining restaurant since its launch in 2017 and has experience in high-end restaurants across the UK and Europe.

Originally from Puglia in southern Italy, his CV includes Mikael Jonsson’s Hedone restaurant in London as well as Accademia Del Gusto in Zurich and Bishop Sessa in Sydney.

Created by chef patron Yuma Hashemi, the 24-cover restaurant serves French cuisine with Persian influences, offering a daily-changing tasting menu alongside wines from an extensive list of small, artisanal producers.

“Mattia is an incredibly talented chef and has been integral to our development to date,” says Hashemi. “His unique cooking experience gives our menus brilliant depth and really offer our guests an experience they are not likely to find anywhere else in London.”

Earlier this year, former general manager at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay Ali Nia was appointed as general manager and a partner in the business.
