Boxer Sohail Ahmad to open egg-centric Eggoland restaurant this summer

London's burgeoning egg-based restaurant scene is getting another player – one with arguably the best (or worst) pun of them all – with the launch of Eggoland this summer.

The brainchild of professional British-Afghan boxer Sohail 'Show Star' Ahmad, the restaurant will open on Fitzrovia's Tottenham Street. It is born from Ahmad's frustration at never being able to order his eggs just the way he likes them, he says.

Eggoland will serve an egg-centric menu ranging from classic egg sandwiches and brioche buns filled with scrambled and fried eggs with confit duck leg, bacon and cheese as well as vegan options. The menu will be 100% halal.
Ahmad came to the UK at the age of 12 as an Afghan refugee where he stayed at Swattenden centre in Kent, a venue run by Kent social services for minors who have no parents. While there, he worked cleaning dishes in restaurants, which is where his love for food and restaurants began.

In 2008, he began his career as an amateur boxer before turning professional in 2015.

Eggoland is one of a number of egg-based concepts to have hatched in the capital over the past few years. Led by Eggslut, which entered the market in 2019, the space is now occupied by brands including Eggs 'n' Stuff, the egg-based delivery brand from Wing Shack founder Josh Jarvis; Mad Egg, which operates a dark kitchen in Wood Green, and EggRun, which opened its first permanent site in Monument earlier this year.

Late last year EggRun's founders Laurent Manuel and Asher Grant have said they plan to open up to 15 restaurants by the end of 2023.
