Ombra founder Mitshel Ibrahim will open a bakery, pastificio and deli under the arches next to Regent’s Canal in Hackney early next year.

Located close to Ombra, Forno will be focused on ‘filled, short and stuffed pasta’, fresh sauces, cold cuts, Italian cheeses, pastries, sandwiches, soups, freshly baked breads, coffee and wines.

Everything will be available to take away, but there will be 10 seats inside and 20 outside.

On occasional evenings, Ibrahim will open the shutters for Roman pizza and pasta making with wines and negronis.

The project builds on the success of Ombra’s lockdown and post-Covid offering, which was also centred around fresh pasta and deli items.

The new site will be partly funded by a crowdfunding campaign hosted on the Kickstarter platform.

Billed as ‘rewards-based community fund-raiser’ Forno is looking to raise up to £60,000.

Rewards include pasta and coffee (£15); limited edition white Bigoli T-shirts (£25); and an invite to the founder party (£35).

Launched in 2011, Ombra is an ambitious neighborhood Italian restaurant that offers both a la carte and tasting menu.
