Cocktail bar and restaurant group The Alchemist is heading to Germany for the opening of its first international site.

The group will open a venue in Berlin's Potsdamer Platz next year, a location chosen for its vibrant night life. The area is currently under redevelopment, which started in 2020, to create 90 outlets in six block themed areas, including food, technology, sport, fashion, lifestyle and entertainment. It will also be home to a sustainable food hall Manifesto Market, a two-storey, 750-cover food hub.

Due to open in spring 2023, the new venue will be a 5,887sq ft site with space for 212 covers inside and 50 on an outside terrace.“This is a very exciting step for The Alchemist, into the vibrant city of Berlin. We’ve been working on this venture for nearly three years and each time we come to visit, we get more excited about the energy and the environment around us," says The Alchemist CEO Simon Potts.

“We love the pace of the city, both relaxed and somehow always on the go and believe our concept will fit in brilliantly with the wider culture and community in Berlin. We’re delighted to be a small part of the reimagining of The Playce at Potsdamer Platz, and will be working hard to create an inclusive, engaging and experiential venue – where all are welcome.”

The Alchemist is continuing to expand outside of England, and will also open a second restaurant in the Scottish capital Edinburgh next year. It will open a venue on George Street in the city, marking its third site in the country in total.
