Giggling Squid’s sister brand Lime Squeezy has closed its last remaining restaurant, bringing to an end its high street presence less than two years after it first launched.

The all-day orientated Thai restaurant brand confirmed on Instagram that its Chichester restaurant had ceased trading as of yesterday (9 January). It comes after the group closed its only other restaurant, located in central Brighton, late last year after fewer than six months of trading.

Lime Squeezy was conceived by Giggling Squid co-founder Pranee Laurillard as a faster-paced, all day-orientated sibling to the long-running Thai brand and launched in Chichester in 2021.

Despite it offering quicker service, Lime Squeezy took large sites, with its Chichester outpost taking over a former Wahaca and its Brighton restaurant opening on a huge, c.200 cover PizzaExpress site.

In its Instagram post, Lime Squeezy hinted that the brand may return at some point, but didn't offer any further details.

"It’s been a great journey and we want to thank all who visited us and shared our passion for Southeast Asian food. We hope this is not a goodbye …we’ve got a few plans bubbling," it said.

The menu at Lime Squeezy was largely based on the top selling dishes at Giggling Squid offering little that’s unfamiliar for those that frequent Anglo/Thai restaurants. Dishes include pad Thai, green curry, red curry, Massaman curry and pad kra pao.

Served with rice in most cases, main courses ranged from £10.50 to £13.50 while small plates were all between £6 and £7.

Breakfast and brunch was a core part of the proposition at launch with a dedicated menu that fused Thai and Western morning favourites but appears to be have been dropped with the Chichester restaurant now opening from 12pm.

The closure of Lime Squeezy site comes after Giggling Squid reported having 'its most profitable year since inception', despite the ongoing disruption from the Coronavirus pandemic.
