Dishoom lines up permanent Brighton restaurant

Dishoom is looking to launch a permanent restaurant in Brighton, which would mark the group's first regional opening in the south of the country.

The Indian restaurant group, which operates nine UK sites that are primarily concentrated in London, has applied for an alcohol licence at 31a and 32 East Street in The Lanes. The site was previously occupied by all-day dining brand Socialite Restaurant and Bar, which spanned three floors including a roof terrace.

Dishoom's license application states that it plans to open a 'restaurant with ancillary bar and external terrace (subject to relevant consents)'. It has applied to sell alcohol between 8am and midnight every day.

Plans were submitted to Brighton City Council on 22 February with the consultation window until 4 April.

Should it go ahead, the opening will mark Dishoom's first permanent location in Brighton. However, the group does currently offer delivery across much of the city via a dark kitchen based in the Hove area.

Dishoom was founded in 2010 by cousins Shamil and Kavi Thakrar, and launched its first restaurant in Covent Garden. It now operates six restaurants across the capital, alongside regional locations in Manchester, Birmingham and Edinburgh.

The brand pays homage to the Irani cafés that were once part of the fabric of life in Bombay, offering an expansive menu of Indian dishes.
