Carters of Moseley to relocate to the Worcestershire countryside for the summer

Highly-rated Birmingham restaurant Carters of Moseley will decamp to a glasshouse in The Vale of Evesham this summer to offer a menu that's largely based on produce grown on-site.

The project is a collaboration with the Michelin-starred restaurant’s owners Brad Carter and Holly Jackson and their long-standing supplier and friend Will Boers of specialist grower Westlands UK, which is based an hour's drive south of Birmingham in Offenham.  

Surrounded by living herbs, flowers and fauna, guests will be able to enjoy nine courses 'inspired by the area’s natural bounty' and chef Carter’s ethos of ‘ultra-British seasonality’.

Dishes will include fresh cheese and nasturtium summer tartare; green tiger stripe tomato with cox crab and English cucumber; and a BBQ flatbread.

Supported by Kent-based wine producer Gusborne, the residency will last for a minimum of three months and could run all the way through to winter. 

"Historically summer is our least busy quarter. The restaurant is tiny with no outdoor space and therefore not a summertime place. We have been flirting with this idea for some time having worked closely with Will for the past 15 years," Brad says. 

"I want to capture the feeling I get when I go there and pick something and eat it. For us, it’s a chance to be creative, think outside the box and take our plates to source - the menu here is complete sustainability - inspired by the herbs, flowers and plants of Westlands - in our usual style of complete circle, recycled cooking we will use whole shellfish, whole animals and seasonal fruits to create one off unique dishes for our time in the glasshouse."

"Think of the warmth in the tomatoes plucked from the vines and the intoxicating smell in the greenhouse they produce. Expect edible flowers, herbs and plants picked and harvested by hand within minutes of eating them, experiencing the optimum texture, flavour and peak freshness of the products in the environment they grow.”

The menu will cost £75 per head and is described by Carter as being 75% vegetable, fruit and herb-based. 

Designed by 2G Design and Build the space will seat 60 and will trade from 5pm Wednesday to Saturday and on lunchtimes on Fridays and Saturdays.

The holder of a Michelin star and a regular on Restaurant's list of the top 100 restaurants in the UK,​Carters of Moseley launched in 2010. 

Carter is also behind gourmet kebab brand One Star Döner Bar, which has locations in Birmingham and Manchester.
