Russian restaurateur Michael Gokhner is to open a second site of his high-end Italian restaurant Bocconcino, with a third planned for next year.

Following the success of Bocconcino in Mayfair, the second restaurant will open on Great Marlborough Street in London’s Soho and will specialise in authentic Italian food.

The 471sq ft venue will have a capacity for 146 diners spread across two floors and will comprise an open-plan dining area seating 120 and a bar on the lower-level seating 26.

Designed by CO:DE Studios, the upper dining area will have an open kitchen with counter seating and there will be a DJ space on each floor for live entertainment.

The kitchen will be led by newly appointed head chef Simone Serafini – previously of Cecconi’s and 5 Hertford Street. His menu will reflect the current offer at the Mayfair original but with a wider range of aperitivo dishes and small plates, alongside Bocconcino favourites such as the tagliatelle with black truffle and pizza diavola.

The wine list will be exclusively Italian, with bottles from well-known brands and small, artisan producers.

“There’s such a buzz in Soho and I’m confident our new restaurant with its vibrant atmosphere, accessible yet elevated Italian menu, great cocktails and speakeasy style bar will be a welcome addition to the area,” says Andrea Caglioti, Bocconcino general manager.

Gokhner launched Bocconcino Pizzeria in Moscow in 2006 inspired by the pizza and Italian cuisine he enjoyed in Forte dei Marmi, a seaside town in Northern Tuscany.

He brought the restaurant to London in 2014 with a restaurant on Mayfair’sBerkeley Street.

A third London Bocconcino is planned for the Strand later in 2024.
