Roti King heads to Waterloo for third site
Launching on Lower Marsh, the restaurant will be walk-in only and will have space for 50 diners and an open kitchen to enable guests to see the rotis being made.
It will serve a menu of roti canai that will be available with with different options of kari - chicken, mutton, dahl and fish - as well as the stuffed roti murtabak with a variety of fillings.
Dishes served with coconut rice will include beef rendang, and nasi lemak, with noodle-based dishes to include char kuey teow - stir fried flat rice noodles with egg, prawns and chicken; and kari laksa with egg noodles in a coconut broth, served with seafood and tofu.
The new menu will also have plant-based focus, with new dishes to include pulled shitake rendang.
Traditional desserts of filled sweet roti, with options being Kaya - with coconut jam; planta - with condensed milk; and pisang - with banana available.
“There is nowhere in the UK that makes Roti Canai the way we do at Roti King,” says founder Sugen Gopal.
“Our attention to detail, fresh British ingredients and a few secret techniques makes this the most authentic place to eat Malaysian food in the UK. I am beyond thrilled to see my cuisine and heritage becoming so popular in the UK and Lower Marsh is the perfect spot to bring Malaysian food south of the river.”
Roti King was launched by Gopal in Euston in 2014 with a second restaurant opening in Battersea Power Station in 2022.
