Crab shack LULA finds second Cornwall site

Owner Sam Sheffield will open the restaurant in an as yet unnamed location which will continue LULA’s focus on seafood and meat dishes inspired by America’s Deep South and which will have the same shack decor as the original location.

LULA launched in the port town of Hayle in west Cornwall in 2020 with a beach side restaurant at North Quay. It announced in May this year that it had been forced to close ‘for reasons beyond its control’ with the landlord trying to evict it.

The restaurant later moved to coastal wedding venue The Rockpool bar and the kitchen will reopen on 1 December serving a Christmas menu.

Dishes on its menu include chowder; lobster and crayfish three cheese macarni; shack burger; buttermilk chicken; devilled fish cakes; and a sea platter.

“Many of our lovely Shackers will be aware of the journey that we’ve been on in the last eight months, ever since we had to leave our original site at North Quay in Hayle. It has been a hugely difficult time, but thanks to the support of locals, visitors, friends and family, we have made it through to the other side,” says the restaurant.

“We were over the moon when The Rockpool in Gwithian heard of our situation and offered us a new home. This sparked an incredible relationship and we’re excited to say that we will remain at this beautiful spot.”

In the coming weeks the restaurant will be move everything from the original LULA to the new site.

“After a rollercoaster year, we’re so proud to say that we’re still going and growing. Here’s to 2024,” it adds.
