The co-founder of dessert concept Creams will launch a shrimp-focused casual dining brand in Streatham, South London, next month.

Shrimp Shack will see Balal Aqil partner with fellow entrepreneurs Danny Caratella, Rish Gola and Raf Adam and is billed as a ‘high energy, vibrant and welcoming’ new brand.

The core menu centres on a ‘build your own’ experience where diners first choose their size of shrimp followed by the dip, and finally the seasoning.

Other seafood, including crab and lobster, will also be available, as well as meat choices of beef, lamb or chicken, alongside a selection of sides.

The Shrimp Shack team is working with 360-degree branding, interior design and architecture specialist Harrison on the project.

Shrimp Shack will use two primary, vibrant, and contemporary colours – blue and pink – which represent the sea and the seafood in ‘a fresh way’.

“We wanted to launch something totally unique that is different from the hundreds of burger chains around, which is where the idea of grilled shrimp came from,” says Aqil, who founded Creams with Adam Mani in 2008. “This new casual dining experience is going to be as much fun as it is tasty, showcasing innovative experiences to its guests that they’ll want to come back time and time again.”

Richard Benjamin, senior creative design lead at Harrison, added: “When working with the Shrimp Shack team to develop the brand identity, we wanted to ensure all the incredible elements and values which make Shrimp Shack unique were represented. The result is a culmination of this – fun, vibrant, engaging and exciting.”
