Ben and Sophie Crittenden have announced that they are relocating their Michelin-starred Broadstairs restaurant to Mersea Island.

Stark’s last service will be Friday 31 May, after which time the couple will move it to a new, as yet unannounced location on Mersea Island in Essex.

Stark is the only Michelin-starred restaurant in Thanet and one of four in Kent. It is owned and run by Ben and Sophie Crittenden, who opened the restaurant in December 2016.

The small restaurant has just four tables and has won praise for its frequently -hanging, seasonal six-course tasting menu.

Stark was awarded a Michelin star in the 2020 edition of the red book, with Michelin saying of Crittenden’s cooking: “His dishes may appear quite delicate in their looks but they offer plenty of flavour and contrasts in texture, along with ingredients that are clearly sourced with care.”
