Bompas & Parr creates waterfall cocktail ‘experience’ at Westfield

Experimental gastronomy group Bompas & Parr is to team up with Westfield London to offer a new ‘fantasy’ Christmas cocktail ‘experience’, including a boat journey across a lagoon and under a waterfall.

Beyond The Waterfall will take place in the evenings from 9 to 23 December (4-9pm) and allow guests aged 18 and over to travel to a ‘hidden cocktail tavern’ by way of a small boat ride across a 20m lagoon and under a waterfall, through a ‘diamond mine’, and a quest through an ‘Aladdin’s cave’ filled with gemstones.

Guests will then have chance to try two cocktails that have been inspired by the ocean, with the drinks made using spirits from undersea botanicals and minerals. The hour-long session tickets will cost £15 per person, and aim to offer a sense of childlike Christmas excitement to adults.

The company explained that the cocktail concepts have also been inspired by the story of Glaucus, the Greek Sea-God, who myth says was born a mortal human, but became an immortal sea-creature as soon as he ate a magical herb.

Harry Parr, partner of Bompas & Parr, said: “Christmas is obviously a magical time of year but many people find it hugely predictable, so we’ve designed a radical new form of escapism that still evokes the emotions and nostalgia of the season – the group activity draws people together, with a real sense of discovery and emotion associated with gift-giving and an indulgent treat at its heart.”

Bompas & Parr is a design studio that was founded in 2007, specialising in flavour-based experimental events that draw on culinary research, contemporary food design, architectural installations, and emotionally-compelling culinary experiences.

It works with cultural institutions along with a team of producers, cooks, technicians, designers, architects and artists to create new events, and last year famously created a bar with a 'breathable cocktail cloud' at a pop-up bar in London's Borough Market, which purported to allow guests to inhale alcohol (while wearing protective suits).

Westfield London in Shepherd’s Bush will be the only Westfield centre to showcase the Beyond The Waterfall event. The group has interest in over 35 shopping centres across the UK and the USA, with over to 6,487 retail outlets.
