M Restaurants has secured a site in Canary Wharf to launch a fourth iteration of its steak and grill restaurant.

Set to launch at the end of 2020, the restaurant will take the first floor of the 60-storey Newfoundland development, and will comprise a restaurant, grill, wine store, tasting room, cocktail bar, garden and members lounge.

It will sit alongside 636 rental apartments in the building, which has been designed by central London architecture company Horden Cherry Lee.

The restaurant’s skyscraper location will contrast with its other locations in Threadneedle Street in the City, Twickenham, and Victoria Street in Westminster, which are more understated.

“Since we created M in 2014, we have opened three hidden venues, which reflected the M brand during it’s infancy” says the group’s founder Martin Williams.

“Since winning many awards and most importantly the patronage of so many fantastic discerning Londoners, we felt the timing was right to seek a truly iconic flagship venue. Canary Wharf Group’s ‘Newfoundland’ building will undoubtably become a London landmark, so we are delighted to have exchanged leases on such an epic site”.

The restaurant is known for its meaty dishes which include braised USDA prime short rib of beef with salted radish, anchovy emulsion and shiitake mushrooms; and smoked barbecue pork belly with dandelion glaze, barbecue n’duja sauce and watercress.

The restaurant’s Victoria site offers a wider range of dishes on its ‘love yourself detox’ menu and its ‘raw bar’ menu.

M Restaurants was founded by former Gaucho MD Martin Williams and ‘Great British Menu Chef’ Michael Reid. The group has seen a 9.4% like-for-like growth in the first six months of 2018.
