Rob Hampton and Matt Lovell, the duo behind Covent Garden seafood bar and kitchen The Oystermen, have opened a wine bar and bottle shop in London's West End.

Coming just months after Hampton and Lovell launched their second restaurant venture, Walter’s in West Dulwich, Bedford Street Wines features a global selection of wines available alongside a range of premium sakes, pre-mixed cocktails and craft beer.

Shelves stocked with bottles for sale flank the central wooden bar, crafted by master boat builder Giles Thaxton, which serves a range of wines by the glass that can be paired with an artisanal cheese board from London-based cheesemonger, Buchanan’s.

“Wine has always been a great passion of ours, and we are very proud of the wine lists we offer at both The Oystermen and Walter’s,” says Lovell.

“Bedford Street Wines gives us even more of an opportunity to share these wines, and the work of some of the most ingenious and creative winemakers out there.”

Hampton and Lovell have partnered with Alexandra Prymaka, formerly of The Sampler, for the venture. Prymaka, who has a MSc in Viticulture and Oenology, has a particular specialism in English wine, which forms a core part of the offering.

“We love wine from all over but our real passion is English wine,” she says.

“It just keeps getting better, year-on-year, and we feel it is under-represented in London, while it's booming in the countryside. We hope to share just how great English wine can be with everyone.”

The site holds around 20 covers in total and features two large wine barrels to be used as tables alongside the bar.
