The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2023, sponsored by San Pellegrino and Acqua Panna, will be hosted in the city of Valencia in Spain in June next year.

Marking the first time the awards have been held in the historic port city, it will see chefs, restaurateurs, media and culinary icons from across the globe come together for a programme of events and talks that will culminate in the unveiling of The World's 50 Best Restaurants 2023 list.

The announcement follows the 20th anniversary of the awards earlier this summer, which were held in London and saw Geranium in Copenhagen, Denmark, named The World’s Best Restaurant.

“We are thrilled to announce Valencia as the location of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2023 awards ceremony this June, in collaboration with our host destination partner, Visit Valencia and other Tourism Valencian institutions,” says William Drew, director of content for The World’s 50 Best Restaurants.

“Following the 20th anniversary of the awards in 2022, we were reminded once again of our aim to celebrate great restaurants and great chefs, but more than that, to unite the global hospitality community and bring people together through food. We cannot wait to gather this incredible community in June in Valencia, a city that both loves and values its food culture.”

Highlights for the programme in Valencia will include a series of key events including thought-leadership forum #50BestTalks; a 50 Best Signature Sessions series of collaborative dining events open to the public; and a Chefs’ Feast showcasing the finest produce and cooking from the Spanish region.

“It is undeniable that the gastronomy of our community is going through its best moment, as is confirmed by the choice of Valencia to host The World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards 2023,” says Ximo Puig, President of the Generalitat Valenciana.

“This land is a benchmark in gastronomy and, day by day, continues to work and innovate to remain at the forefront. We are a region with a first class gastronomy, but we also have the capacity and experience necessary to host events of this calibre.”

Launched in 2002, The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list is created from the votes of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy, comprising over 1,000 international restaurant industry experts. The academy is split into 26 separate regions around the world. Each region has its own voting panel of 40 members including a chairperson to head it up.
