Maray shutters Allerton Road restaurant

Liverpool-based restaurant group Maray has permanently closed its restaurant on Allerton Road in order to focus its resources on the rest of its estate.

The Middle Eastern-inspired brand confirmed the news on Instagram, adding that the site would be closed immediately and it would be in contact with any guests that had upcoming reservations.

No further information was provided about the decision to shutter the site.

"After six years in the leafy suburbs, we are bidding farewell to Maray Allerton Road," the group said in a statement.

"We love Allerton, but the time has come to put our resources where they are needed the most, which in this case is our Bold Street and Albert Dock restaurants in Liverpool city centre, and our recently opened site in Manchester."

Maray was founded in 2014 by James Bates, Tom White and Dom Jones, and was originally inspired by the owners’ experiences in the Le Marais district of Paris, an area influenced by Middle Eastern food.

Having originally focused its expansion in Liverpool, the group opened its first restaurant outside of its hometown earlier this year, in Manchester.

"Allerton has been a wonderful home to Maray for the last six years, it was our second site and we have made many memories here and developed a close network of regulars that we will miss dearly," the group added.

"Our other Liverpool sites remain open as usual, and Maray continues to be a growing company with exciting plans for 2023."
