Budgie Montoya to relocate Sarap to Soho’s Kingly Court
The chef, who is currently operating a year-long residency at Mayfair’s 10 Heddon Street, revealed last month that he was launching a crowdfund to relocate the restaurant to more permanent premises.
The new restaurant will seat 45 diners in the main dining room as well as six people on bar stools. It will have an industrial colour scheme and simple interior design.
The crowdfund will go live on the Seedrs platform from 12 December. It is not yet known how much money the chef is seeking to raise.
“I’m really excited about this next phase of Sarap’s journey and to be able to keep building on what we’ve achieved so far,” says Montoya.
“I feel incredibly proud to have been able to share my interpretation of Filipino cuisine and introduce Londoners to the tastes and smells that represent my heritage. I’ve always hoped that Sarap will one day find a permanent home so I can’t wait to be able to open the doors to Sarap Kingly Court.”
Sarap first began as a supper club in 2017 as a way for Montoya to reconnect to his Filipino roots and the new restaurant will see Sarap become a hybrid of its casual origins and more refined present.
Kingly Court will also welcome back Asma Khan’s Darjeeling Express restaurant in the new year. The chef, who previously ran a restaurant at the Carnaby development, has taken on a site on its second floor that was previously Triyoga.
