'Flamboyant' Italian restaurant Oi Mamma to open in Glasgow
Located on the site that was formerly Raffaele's Restaurant on Milngavie Road, Oi Mamma will open on 8 February.
The 80-seat restaurant and bar is described as having ‘maximalist, flamboyant interiors and extravagant Italian dishes’ said to honour ‘the strong, extroverted, and passionate nature’ of Italians.
The menu will feature classic Italian recipes with a ‘modern Mediterranean twist’, with dishes to include nduja hummus with sourdough flatbread; whole lemon Sole on the bone served with brown butter, shrimps, samphire, and Amalfi lemon; and tagliolini with pecorino basil and burrata.
The restaurant will also serve a range of pasta dishes and pizzas made with dough that has been proofed for 72 hours.
"We aim to honour the team's traditional family roots and warm Italian hospitality while also celebrating the much-loved neighbourhood’s personality,” says head chef Giovanni Di Camillo.
“Our menu will be simple and flavourful, with classic Italian crowd-pleasers and a celebration of Italian produce".
Doing it for the 'gram'
Oi Mamma's interior will be 'Instagram friendly' and with a 'bold and glamorous' design that will create a celebratory space that reflects the fun nature of the cuisine and lively its atmosphere. Its aim is to connect with a younger neighbourhood customer.
It will be the first Italian focused restaurant brand from entrepreneurs Amalia Colaluca and Joe Lazzerini, who are also behind gastropub The Loveable Rogue, which operates two sites in Glasgow, in the west and east ends of the city.
"Oi Mamma, a loud and bold Italian eatery that serves a 'new look' for the neighborhood, will open this month. Our family-friendly restaurant will be vibrant from the inside out, providing local residents with a new place to eat and drink,” says Oi Mamma Director, Colaluca.
Oi Mamma continues the trend for over-the-top, Instagram-friendly Italian restaurants, popularised by the Big Mamma restaurant group. Big Mamma recently opened its latest London restaurant, Jacuzzi, in South Kensington.
