Mamma Dough bought out of administration
The sale, which will save 47 jobs, comes after Mamma Dough fell into administration on 20 December 2022 with Stephen Katz and David Birne of Begbies Traynor appointed as administrators to the company.
The group has been acquired by the newly-incorporated London Dough Co, which is led by Emma Willis and Lisa Loebenberg, who also run The Exhibit bar, restaurant and event venue in Balham.
“We are delighted to have successfully secured a positive outcome for the majority of the staff at Mamma Dough and to enable this previously growing business to continue to operate following one of the toughest periods to be a consumer-facing business,” says Katz.
Mamma Dough was founded in 2014 by Jake Harrison and had grown to having seven sites in south London.
The group had been in the process of preparing for further expansion with an aim to extend its reach across the capital and around the UK via a franchise model that was launched in 2021.
However, soaring cost inflation and energy bills, combined with the impact of the cost-of-living crisis and train strikes on consumer spend and footfall, eventually pushed the business into administration just before Christmas.
It is understood that Mamma Dough’s restaurants in Brixton, Peckham, Ladywell, Sydenham and South Norwood will continue to operate as part of the sale, but its sites in Whitechapel and Tooting Bec have closed.
