Timberyard team to launch Montrose House wine bar

Called Montrose House, the new venue will be split across two levels and include a downstairs wine bar and a first-floor dining room.

The downstairs are will hold between 20 to 30 covers, with the upstairs having room for around 15 covers per sitting.

“In a way we will be opening a venue with two very different offerings under one roof,” explains Jo Radford, director of Timberyard. “On the ground floor will be the wine bar that Edinburgh has never had, while upstairs will be an intimate, six table dining room.”

Occupying the former Abbey's café site on Montrose Terrace, Montrose House will be led by the Radford family in partnership with Timberyard head chef James Murray.

Murray will oversee the food at Montrose House, with the wine bar serving a selection of European-inspired small plates; while the dining room will offer a ‘simple’ set menu of ‘focussed, ingredient-driven dishes’.

The wine list will follow in the steps of Timberyard with a focus on small producers who respect the land they farm and the grapes they harvest.

“All our wines will be capsule free and showcase indigenous varieties from all corners of Europe,” adds Radford.

The interior design for Montrose House will be ‘understated and simple’, featuring lots of natural tones.

Timberyard was launched by the Radfords on Lady Lawson Street in 2012, with all members of the family – Ben, Jo, Abi, Andrew and Lisa – actively involved in the restaurant’s day-to-day operations.

The restaurant recently received its first Michelin star​​.
