Richard Caring to relaunch Le Caprice at The Chancery Rosewood on Grosvenor Square
As reported by CoStar News, Caring is currently in talks with the building’s owners, Qatari Diar, to bring Le Caprice to the £1bn hotel, retail, restaurant and leisure destination on Grosvenor Square.
A source with knowledge of the talks has subsequently confirmed the plans to Restaurant.
Qatari Diar is also reportedly looking to bring high-profile New York restaurant Carbone to The Chancery Rosewood for what would be its first London location.
CBRE and Gillingham Bell advise Qatari Diar, which bought the Mayfair site following a decision in 2013 by the United States Government to relocate the Embassy to Nine Elms in Battersea.
All parties declined to comment or did not respond to a request for comment.
Le Caprice was originally opened by Mario Gallati on Arlington Street in St James’s in 1947 and was later taken over by Jeremy King and Chris Corbin.
The restaurant was acquired by Caring in 2005 and was recognised as one of London’s most famous celebrity restaurants with the likes of Mick Jagger and Elizabeth Taylor counted among its regulars.
Le Caprice closed in 2020 amid the Covid-19 pandemic, but plans were announced at the time to open the restaurant at another location.
Last year it was revealed that King had acquired the former Le Caprice site with plans to relaunch it this year under the name Arlington.
Carbone, which also has restaurants in Dallas, Miami, Las Vegas and Hong Kong, originally opened in Greenwich Village in 2013 and is also known for its celebrity clientele with regulars including Barak Obama, David Beckham and Kim Kardashian.
