Boston-based US seafood restaurant Saltie Girl has permanently shuttered its only London restaurant little more than a year after its launch.

The restaurant on North Audley Street in Mayfair is understood to have closed last month, having originally launched in November 2022.

No official announcement concerning the closure has been made, but the restaurant is listed as being ‘permanently closed’ on Google.

Restaurant has contacted Saltie Girl for a statement.

Saltie Girl was founded by US restaurateur Kathy Sidell, who is president of the Sidell Hospitality Group, and launched its first site in Boston in 2016.

For the London launch, Sidell joined forces with UK restaurateur Varun Talreja. However, he subsequently left the restaurant prior to its closure.

Saltie Girl is known for its vast selection of premium tinned fish, which at the London restaurant included ranges of anchovies, clams, sardines and tuna served with French bread, butter, a trio of salts and condiments.

The London menu, which was consulted on by chef Richard Turner, also featured a range of signature dishes including New England lobster roll served with house made crisps; Boston lettuce salad with shaved vegetables, herbs and honey mustard dressing; and fried lobster-topped waffle served with sweet corn butter and spicy maple syrup.

Saltie Girl London’s opening in 2022 was timed to coincide with the launch of the group's second US outpost, on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, which continues to operate.
