Pip Lacey and Gordy McIntyre have closed their Islington pub Hicce Hart just over a year after its launch.

The pub opened on Penton Street in 18 November and continued the style of food served at the pair’s Hicce restaurant in London’s Coal Drop Yards, which closed at the end of last year.

The pair’s pizzeria Little Pizza Hicce, located in Islington, is also understood to have closed having initially launched in April last year at the Goodness Brewing Co taproom in north London’s Wood Green. The pair later moved the concept to Chapel Street across the road from their pub.

Hicce Hart was a neighbourhood pub that operated upstairs dining space folly row, that could seat up to 32 covers. The pub offered an excellent value lunch menu that included dishes such as a cheeseburger’ bavette steak sandwich; and margarita pizza as well as any draught pint or pulled glass of wine for just £13.

McIntyre had previously worked in pubs for around 20 years before opening Hicce with Lacey in spring 2018.

Speaking to Restaurant at the time of the launch, Lacey said that the pair had been talking about opening a pub even before they launched Hicce. “We were looking at anything, there wasn’t any remit as such,” she said.

“Whether the area felt right, what we could do with the space, how much it would cost were all factors. We didn’t know whether we would open a restaurant or a pub or maybe even a pizza place. we are open to everything as we’ve got quite a few concepts flying around our black book.

Lacey and McIntyre announced in September that they were closing Hicce saying that the King’s Cross development’s overall landlord Argent had activated a break clause on clothes shop Wolf & Badger, from which they sublet the site.
