Mother Flipper opens first permanent restaurant in ‘spiritual home’ of Brockley

Burger slinger Mother Flipper has opened its first permanent restaurant in its ‘spiritual home’ of Brockley, south London, more than a decade after originally launching as a street food outfit.

The brand, which was founded by Manuel Leal-Andades back in 2012 and specialises in 35 day-aged chuck steak burgers served in a glazed brioche bun, has taken over the former Coqfighter site on Coulgate Street.

Mother Flipper announced the opening on Instagram earlier this week.

It said: “In 2012, we set up a stall at Brockley Market and flipped our first Mother Flipper cheeseburger. It was the beginning of an epic journey and [this week] we fling the doors open to our first perm restaurant back in our spiritual home Brockley at 10 Coulgate Street!”

The site has special resonance for Leal-Andades, who ran a one-month Mother Flipper pop up there back in 2019.

Mother Flipper’s Brockley menu will include its signature cheeseburger, as well as its candy bacon burger featuring bacon fried in maple syrup.

There will also be a range of chicken burgers, and sides including fries and hot wings.

It’s understood that Mother Flipper will continue to run its street food stall every Saturday at Brockley Market, alongside the restaurant.
