Government-backed hospitality employment scheme expands to Wales

Run jointly by UKHospitality and training provider Cambrian Training, the Cardiff pilot scheme will provide tailored training to jobseekers and help them gain an industry recognised ‘Hospitality Skills Passport’ via fast-tracked training and work experience.

Back by the Department for Work and Pensions, the initiative was first launched in September last year​​ and has already been successfully piloted in London, Liverpool, Manchester and Coventry.

“I’m delighted that we’ve been able to bring the pilot scheme to Cardiff,” says Sandra Kelly, Skills Director at UKHospitality.

“Our ambition with this scheme is to have it operating all across Britain and this is a crucial step in developing the scheme to achieve that goal. 

“The pilot schemes in other cities in England have all been a great success so far, where they have provided jobseekers with fantastic job opportunities, and I’m confident we’ll see the same in Cardiff.”

Taking place at the Principality Stadium, the Cardiff pilot will see participants complete qualifications and accredited training in areas such as health and safety, food safety, licensing, and conflict resolution to add to their Hospitality Skills Passport, which can in turn be added to their CVs.

They will also receive training in confidence and assertiveness to build personal skills and strength.

Brewhouse & Kitchen, Compass Cymru and Greene King are all supporting the pathway in Cardiff, with job opportunities across all three businesses available to successful participants.
