Pizza Pilgrims earns B Corp status

The nationwide pizza chain, which operates an estate of more than 20 sites primarily based in the capital, officially received the accreditation last month following an extensive assessment process.

To achieve B Corp certification, Pizza Pilgrims had to display verified performance, accountability and transparency on factors such as employee pay and benefits; engagement with its community; positive practices in the supply chain; and a long-term commitment to reduce its environmental impact.

“Ever since I first read about B Corp – I have felt it is a movement that I want Pizza Pilgrims to be a part of,” says Thom Elliot, who founded Pizza Pilgrims with his brother James back in 2012.  

“We started the company to be a source of happiness – both for ourselves, but also our employees, customers, and the communities we serve.

“To have B Corp as a hugely credible third-party guide and inspiration for ensuring Pizza Pilgrims is a force for good in the future is an exciting step – and one I am proud to have achieved with the team.”

B Corp businesses are certified by non-profit network B Labs and are audited on their commitment to bring benefit not just to shareholders but also to positively impact its stakeholders: workers, customers, communities, and the planet.

Some 1,500 businesses in the UK currently have B Corp status.

Other restaurant groups in the UK to have obtained B Corp status include Hawksmoor, Blacklock, and Big Mamma Group.

As well as verifying high ethical standards, having B Corp status also requires a business to commit to constant improvement, with companies required to re-certify every three years.
