Currently at The Ritz, where she has been an apprentice for three years, Ruth Hansom, has also racked up industry experience working with 2011 National Chef of the Year winner Frederick Forster at Boundary Restaurant who she met while competing in FutureChef.
"This was my first insight into the industry and being involved in the competition was definitely what inspired me to become a chef," she says.
FutureChef was the gateway into a number of chef competitions for Hansom, including Young National Chef of the Year (YNCOTY)
"Since then I have tried to compete as much as possible as I believe that it pushes you to seek new things and to learn and hone skills and techniques, both basic and advanced," she says. "This is my third time in the YNCOTY final, so for me it would mean everything to win. It's the one I've been working towards for a long time now!"
